Since my re-format my preferred program - media player classic no longer works much.
When trying to use it it usually says 'cannot render file' but if I use Windows Media Player the file will work fine.

Anyone know a simple fix that I am capable of doing ?

Please Confused

try making media player your default player for all files.........may work, or just use Windows media player, you can get version 11 from microsoft, i like it.

Tried that - doesn't work.
I have had to use Windows Media player since the re-format and I still prefer Classic Neutral

Simple answer. Use Windows Media Player !

Don't install any more codecs. If it plays with Windows Media player then the codec is installed already. I bet it's not all .avi file but only some.

I have tried it with every .avi on my PC and none of them will play - always says the same thing 'cannot render the file'

If I have to use Windows media player then I will - but I never used to have to.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Open MPC.

Right click it and choose Options.

Click Internal Filters.

Put ticks in boxes that don't currently have ticks.

If that doesn't work, revert to the simple fix.

If you only want media player classic because of its 'classic' looks, then use Windows Media player2 or make Windows Media player 11 look 'classic'.

Media Player Classic

Windows Media Player 2

Windows Media Player 11

I have done what you said and AVI was not ticked.

It works now that it is.

I wanted Classic solely because its what I'm used to and I don't much like change.

Thank you Very Happy
