i have noticed recently that when the computer has shut down the optical mouse is still active, by that i mean the light is on, it goes off when the PC turns off but seems to become active again by itself, it doenst matter if the PC is on stand by or completely off, the only way to get the mouse to shut down is to switch the power supply of by the switch on the back, which i find hard to belive.
the connections have all been checked and i have tried different USB points but the same happens, this is an intermitant problem.
any thoughts???

That's exactly how it's meant to be.

Beacuse the motherboard is never off until you actually switch it off with the switch on the power supply.

Have a think about it, how can you wake up your PC with the mouse (or keyboard) if it were off !

If it were a video recorder, the clock would still display the time and you'd call it standby.

happens even when the PC is off......not just standby surely you dont have to switch the PSU off ever time, Turn OFF PC should mean that......

the mouse light switches off when the PC goes off, then it just comes back on.

I'll say it AGAIN !

The PC is not off when you choose Start>Shutdown, it is in standby.

To turn a modern PC off you have to disconnect it from the mains in some way.

Right,

i powered down the PC by the usual means, the PSU has a fan overrun to get rid of the latent heat which usually goes for around 3-4 mins after shutdown and tonight no Mouse light came on, i checked back after a few hours and still no light, but i bet when i shutdown PC again this morning and then return home from work this evening, the bloody light will be on.

oh well i will have to live with it, just thought there might be a simple answer to the question.

Ive never known a mouse to stay lit up when you select shutdown.

I have a razor mouse and the lights go off on the mouse when the PC shuts down.

The mobo light stays on until you hit switch at wall, just like don says..

But the mouse goes off...unless i select hibernate, then the mouse stays on..

Grim - Try reading the motherboard manual. See if a jumper is mentioned for either a USB or keyboard 'power on' feature. If it is, then moved the jumper to the alternative position.

Poo - You seen many motherboards?
