The other day my pc started when I turned on the mains plug - hmmmm i thought.
Today I turned on the plug - then tried the PC but got nothing, not even a glimmer of life from a fan. I tried a few times - nothing.
I decided to leave the mains plug switched on so I could see if the internet was still ok with the Xbox and 10 minutes later when I checked the PC had started itself.

Is this a dodgy on/off switch do you think Neutral

Based on the time of year and the temperature and not actually seeing the PC, I'd suggest an overheating PSU.

Based on the ammount of times Pling goes out with the girls for lunch, i reckon she is skint and hasn't paid the electric bill!

Looking at the event log, it seems that there may be a fault with the hard drive. I suggest running a full scandisk and surface scan.
This will have to take place as the system boots but needs to be set while in Windows by opening My Computer, right clicking the C drive and choosing properties. Then choose Tools and Check Now under the Error Checking section. Tick both boxes on the next page. After clicking start a message will appear asking if you wish to schedule the checks the next time the system restarts, say yes and restart the system. Any results should be stored in the event logs after the restart.

This is not the only possible cause of your problems and the above steps should not be taken as the only possible way to fix the errors. It's one in a large number of possible steps that can be taken.

The best fix and least time consuming would be a full format of the hard drive. This is not life threatening as some would fear.

Further thought makes me think that the hard drive errors could be linked to the possible faulty PSU.

Have you not had 3 or 4 different power supplies in the time your've owned that PC? 28 fitted is very cheap and I think the PSU will be changed again this time next year! My PSU cost 65 without fitting.

Maybe everyone should learn how to take the PSU apart and use a paint brush and Hoover to suck out all if the dirt, pubes and dust. This time of year is when the heat will affect things.

EZ Cool - 15 from Scan ( http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=141417 ) Quality gear. Confused
